About Me
I am an Infectious Diseases-trained physician from California. During residency and fellowship I spent countless hours studying, some of which were enjoyable and some of which were less so. I made plenty of charts and even a phone app (Micropedia for iOS!), but always felt that the fight between body and bug was ripe for the gamification of learning. After serving in the Air Force for a few years and then working in academic medicine a few more, I finally decided to bring my idea to life in the form of Pharmageddon: Bugs vs Drugs.
Pharmageddon was in development for two years, but in reality it was the completion of many more years of listening to podcasts and reading the wise words of game designers across the Internet. It was countlessly play tested with friends and strangers both locally and far far away thanks to the kind folks in #MedEd on Twitter and Reddit. Over time I simplified the core mechanics, trimmed the fat and unnecessary rules, and finally brought the game to Kickstarter in 2022 where it successfully funded. With the helps of my my artists (Luiz Lanzarin and Phil Cavalcanti), manufacturer (Ninox Games), and fulfillment partner (Blackbox) I brought the game to backers 11 months later on time in the spring of 2023. Since then the response has been overwhelmingly positive, Pharmageddon has continued to sell well now on Etsy, and more science and medicine games are in development!

About Lab Beagle Games
After the initial success of Pharmageddon: Bugs vs Drugs I decided a formal business was worthwhile and a formal business name was necessary. In honor of my adorable, retired lab beagle, Butternut, Lab Beagles Games was created in 2023.
Butternut used to be a research beagle prior to her retirement and joining our family. She was born with a congenital version of dry eye, and she received various treatments in order to improve her symptoms and the symptoms of other animals like her. She was loved by the veterinarians and laboratory staff at the university, including my caring wife, and so Lab Beagle Games is also to honor her fellow beagles and their caretakers as the unsung heroes helping advance medical knowledge for humans and animals alike. If you are interested in one day adopting a retired lab beagle like Butternut, please check out Homes for Animal Heroes.
